Robert โ€œBootsโ€ Chouinard was born in 1923. He enlisted in the Army in 1943, and a year later he was sent to Europe. He touched down on Omaha Beach in France five days after D-Day.

Chouinard and his unit, the 128th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion, would join up with Patton's famed 3rd Army and travel across France and Belgium providing anti-aircraft support for the spearhead of the allied advance.

Ultimately Chouinard was sent to the Rhine River to secure the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen. While thousands of American soldiers were crossing, they were tasked to shoot down German aircraft that were attempting to destroy the bridge.

After successfully completing this task, they traveled south of the Rhine River, where they made another crossing in Oppenheim, Germany.

Twenty years after the 9/11 attacks that propelled the #US into its longest war, the last US troops have left Afghanistan. More than 800,000 US #soldiers were deployed there over the past two decades. The Taliban have now retaken control of nearly the whole country. Should the US have pulled out? Could the #Biden administration have handled the withdrawal better? What will happen after US troops are gone? Our correspondents met withย US citizens whose lives have been changed forever by the conflict.

Task Force Pineapple was a volunteer operation of several special operation forces to evacuate more than 1,000 refugees from Afghanistan.
It was formed on Aug. 15, 2021, by Scott Mann, a former Green Beret, to rescue an Afghan commando he had served with and his family. After that, the group grew to more than 50 members and planned its next evacuation, code name "Pineapple Express."

Under cover of darkness, more than 500 people were smuggled through a series of hiding places to get them to Kabul airport undetected by Taliban. To confirm their identity, the fugitives had to show a picture of yellow pineapples on a pink background.

It wasn't until the August 26 attack, in which 196 civilians and 13 American soldiers lost their lives, that the evacuation came to a premature end. Nevertheless, Task Force Pineapple was able to rescue more than 1,000 people who otherwise probably never would have reached the airport.
For the former soldiers, rescuing the Afghans was a particularly important concern, as most NATO countries did virtually nothing to help.

In this video we look at several electrolysis designs and their function. Check out this video's sponsor, MEL Physics! Use the promo code "nighthawk" for 50% your first set of experiments: https://melscience.com/s3p/

Most DC power supplies will work adequately well for electrolysis, the most common of which is a 12v battery charger or a car battery itself. For more control it is best to use an adjustable power supply. Here is an affiliate link where you can purchase a similar 30v 10a power supply as I use in this video: https://ebay.us/2DY3Y0

The last design shown in this video for a combined output HHO fuel cell I first stumbled on here: https://youtu.be/bIVbbqRkudw

After filming this video I realized that the plastic bottles I used for several of my designs had become quite brittle, and found research showing that hydroxide solutions are known to be quite damaging to plastics: https://www.sciencedirect.com/....topics/chemistry/env
I did not notice increased brittleness in the clear plastic container of my final split electrolysis design, but the plastic is much thicker and so it may take longer to show weakness. A suitable precaution to give the cell the longest life may be to empty it of electrolyte while in storage. A stainless steel or glass container should be able to store the hydroxide solution indefinitely.

In this video I show an easy way to make your own silicone waterproofing and use it to make fabric tarps. Check out my sponsor, MEL Science, and use the code "nighthawk" for 60% off: https://melscience.com/sBDy/

I thought to try making my own waterproofing with naptha after watching this excellent video about making deep pour silicone mold material: https://youtu.be/E_IOqxds130

In case there's any concern about the environmental effects of evaporated naptha, from the sources I could find it has a very short half life in the atmosphere and is not of significant concern: https://webwiser.nlm.nih.gov/substance?substanceId=356&identifier=Naphtha&identifierType=name&menuItemId=76&catId=115

Thanks to Dollar Shave Club for sponsoring. Go to โ†’ https://www.dollarshaveclub.com/nighthawk to get your first Starter Set for $5. After that, the restock box ships regular-sized products at regular price.

In this video I show how to make a simple distillation kit from a water bottle that can be used to make fresh water from ocean water. Any steel container could work for this project. I almost used a small stainless steel food container, but decided a water bottle was a more practical object to carry.

Check out my sponsor Brilliant and use this link for 20% off a premium subscription: https://brilliant.org/nighthawk - In this video I assemble and test a rope machine that is theoretically capable of taking any fibrous material (such as straw or other plant fibers) and turning them into two stranded rope. This machine was purchased on Aliexpress for about $900 ($300 for the machine, $600 for shipping). The seller has since deleted their account. It seems these machines are made and sold by a variety of different factories with subtle differences between designs. After a bit of work improving a few faults in the manufacturing it seems to work well. I'll likely use the rope from this machine for a number of future projects.

Here is one of my earlier videos about making grass rope by hand: https://youtu.be/5DG26XDPpB8

I came up with this project in an effort to replicate industrially made thermic (thermal) lances in a small, mobile form factor. Their use commercially is usually for demolition purposes as they have the ability to cut through incredible thicknesses of steel. Both because of the extreme heat they produce as well as their ability to oxidize and burn whatever material they are cutting, in addition to the simple melting action that would be provided by a torch.

I do not recommend you replicate this project without extensive experience with oxygen cutting tools. Pure oxygen is very dangerous and can burn through otherwise fire resistant materials. It should NOT be used without full welding safety equipment.

I want to thank my Patreon supporters for helping me make this video! I go through a lot of materials and project failures as I create designs worth making a video about. The extra contributions you have provided greatly help, especially for videos that are not sponsored. Your support will help grow my channel to bigger and better things. This is a great beginner electronics project that can be done in under an hour for around $5. Here is a search link for the ionizer I used (this is an affiliate link): http://ebay.to/1Tc8IIZ
Be sure to check out Giaco Whatever's channel: http://bit.ly/1RGUE6m A big thanks to him for supporting my projects with his sponsorship!

You can see my video building the previous Static Electricity Generator here: https://youtu.be/GGx83KppSCQ

The generator featured in this video is less powerful than my old versions as the electronics are less capable of high currents and voltages, but it produces enough of an effect to put on a good show. This version also doesn't hurt as much to use. My previous model shocks hard! Both versions have their place for various demonstrations.

This is the video where I first discovered this ionizer: https://youtu.be/j0ov27wqB3o
This video explains some of the circuitry involved: https://youtu.be/ep3D_LC2UzU

In this video I show how to make a sandblaster and use it to dig fossils out of rock. Check out my sponsor, Skillshare! The first 500 people will get 2 months of Skillshare for FREE: https://skl.sh/nighthawkinlight

This project was quick and easy, and can be scaled up using larger tubing for a full size sandblaster. The small brass tubing used in the video was 3/32" (2.38mm) in diameter, which was about perfect for baking soda or sand as blasting media.

Images of professionally prepared trilobite fossils were provided courtesy of: https://www.fossilera.com/

Most simple rockets use a solid fuel engine which, once ignited, burns at a steady rate that cannot be controlled or stopped until the fuel is expended. Hybrid engines on the other hand can be turned on and off, and the thrust adjusted by varying how much oxidizer is fed into the ignition chamber to burn with the fuel. The simple hybrid engine made with this experiment lacks any valves that would be found in a full scale model to control the flow of oxygen, as it is the simplest form a hybrid engine could possibly take. You might call it a base model. If one were so inclined, all sorts of modifications could be made to this experiment to allow throttle control and even a nozzle.

For this project I used off the shelve 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, common bread yeast, and ziti macaroni noodles. This experiment should not be conducted without adult supervision. #NightHawkInLight
